CORVALLIS – Israeli poster artist Yossi Lemel will speak at Oregon State University on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 as part of the OSU Department of Art Visiting Artist and Scholar Lecture series.

The free, public lecture will start at 7 p.m., following a reception at 6 p.m. It will take place at the Construction and Engineering Auditorium at the LaSells Stewart Center, 725 S.W. 26th St.

Lemel, who was born in Jerusalem, is a political poster artist, creative director and teacher. He graduated and taught at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, and in Shenkar College in Israel.

Lemel straddles both worlds of commercial advertising and poster art. His powerful posters push his audience to question the world around them through bold, provocative concepts and imagery. He is the co-curator of the international traveling exhibition and book “Both Sides of Peace,” which shows work from both Israeli and Palestinian artists. He also is curator of the international poster exhibition “Good 50x70” held this year in Holon, Israel.

His work has been featured in magazines around the world. Environmental and social clients include: Greenpeace Mediterranean, Ecoocean, the Israeli Green Party, Amnesty International, the Israeli Civil Rights Organization, the Museum for Islamic Arts, and Peace Now of Israel.
