Will Palestinian Posters Get UNESCO Honor?

A collection of Palestine posters reportedly is still under consideration for being included on a list of world heritage objects.
The poster collection, which was initially accepted by an advisory board of UNESCO’s International Memory of the World Register, was not dropped as previously reported, but has been sent back to the nominator for revision, a representative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization told the Jerusalem Post.
The Times of Israel reported last week that Irina Bokova, UNESCO’s director general, had blocked the nomination of the collection for the list of world heritage objects. JTA picked up the report.
“It is absolutely normal for the committee to ask for revisions and improvements of the nominations to make them meet the program’s selection criteria,” a UNESCO representative told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday.
Some of the posters praise armed resistance and terrorism, including venerating Palestinian suicide bombers and their attacks on Jews and Israeli civilians.
The collection includes some 1,700 posters celebrating the Palestinian national liberation movement. It is part of the larger Palestine Poster Project Archives.
The nomination was submitted by the American art curator Dan Walsh, one of 80 nominations for 2015, according to The Jerusalem Post.
